"ApARTment" at The Contemporary Art Institute in Detroit

"ApARTment Exhibit" at the Contemporary Art Institute in Detroit

Curator and Contemporary Designer/Decorator, Oneita Porter
selected artists, crafstpeople, and furniture designers from submitted portfolios for this exciting project and exhibition.

We are so pleased to announce that "Sky Flowers" by Roberta Ann Busard,
(a print featured on our website www.WildHeartDesigns.biz )
was chosen from the invited artists for this exhibition.

Utilizing the work of diverse artists and craftspeople, Porter designed and decorated a three bedroom apartment that opened for exhibition on October 20, 2007 at the Whitdel Building for the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit and will continue to be open to the public through December 1, 2007.

The Whitdel Building is a $5.5 million project to create affordable housing for artists in Southeast Detroit.

Quoting Amber Hunt from her Detroit FreePress article last week:

"The building sits amid a hodgepodge of abandoned row homes mixed in with other, well-kept homes. "Artists bring the added value to a neighborhood," said
John VanCamp, president of Southwest Solutions, which is working with the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) to turn the 80-year-old building into a haven for the right-brained."

For the last 18 months, this whole building has been undergoing the process of being renewed and renovated to provide for affordable housing and studios in Detroit for Artists and Creative Professionals.

The Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit
, which also plans to host a new gallery space, The LadyBug Gallery, on the premises, also held its inaugural opening on October 20th, but due to ongoing construction in that part of the building, thereafter closed temporarily, but is scheduled to reopen to the public on November 9, 2007.

The Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, a leader in contemporary arts for local and regional artists as well as national and international talent, continues to be at the head of many very exciting programs and projects.
Its innovative exhibitions and art, music, dance, and community programs support artists and culture and help to reinvigorate neighborhoods and connectivity in Detroit and in the state of Michigan.
Especially at a time of turmoil in Michigan's economy, these programs stand out, contributing enormously to the health of the creative community in Detroit and its surrounding areas.

The Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit and many of its programs are spearheaded by the innovative Aaron Timlin, CAID's talented and visionary Executive Director.

Check in with us as we hope to have pictures from the exhibition on display here in the near future as well as more details on other participating artists.
